Relocate an item
This workflow shows you how to move an amount of an item from a location in one storage to a location in another storage, or in the same storage, with Relocate Item. Use it to reorganize stock without a work order.
Role: Operator
Prerequisites
- Both the source and the target storage are of the type Shelving storage — see Storages and racks. Other storage types are not offered.
- The item has stock in the source storage, and a single location there holds the whole amount you want to move.
- Your account has the Picker permission for the target storage, for all storages or for that storage. The place step opens in the picking view and is not shown without it.
Steps
Start the relocation
- In the Main Menu, click the Relocate Item tile under Manual operations. You can also open the three-dots menu in the top bar and click Relocate Item.
- If the Unfinished relocation dialog opens, an earlier relocation still has items in hand. Resolve it first — see Resolve an unfinished relocation.
- Select the From storage, the storage you take the items from.
- Select the To storage, the storage you put the items in. It can be the same storage as the From storage. The To storage you chose last is preselected, for each user on each device.
- When lot number tracking is enabled, you can enter or scan the Lot number of the stock you want to move.
- Scan the item, or enter its Item number.
- Set the amount to move. To move the whole stock of the source location instead, switch on All; the amount field is then locked.
- Click Next.
Take the items from the source location
oneGRID looks for a location in the From storage that holds enough of the item:
- One location holds enough: oneGRID takes the items from that location straight away and opens the place step. You are not asked to scan the location, and it is not lit.
- Several locations hold enough: the Confirm source location page opens. Scan the location you take the items from and click Confirm. A location that holds less than the amount, or that is not in the From storage, is refused.
The stock leaves the source location as soon as the items are taken.
Put the items down
- The place step suggests a location in the To storage and lights it up with the LED guidance. It shows the amount in hand, which you cannot change: everything you took is put down in one confirmation.
- Put the items on the suggested location and confirm the placement according to the storage settings. You can also choose another location yourself, within these limits:
- The items cannot go back on the location they were taken from.
- The items cannot go to a location outside the To storage.
- The location must be able to take the whole amount.
- Within one storage, items taken from a location whose location mode sets Allow placement of same item in multiple locations to None can only go to another location with that rule that already holds the item.
- When the placement is confirmed, oneGRID shows Done!. Click Finish to return to the Relocate Item page and start the next relocation.
Resolve an unfinished relocation
If you leave the place step before the placement is confirmed, for example with the round button at the top right of the place step, the items stay booked out of the source location. The next time you open Relocate Item, the Unfinished relocation dialog shows the item, the amount in hand, its lot number if it has one, the source location, and the To storage. Choose what happens with the items:
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Continue relocation | Closes the unfinished relocation without putting the items back into stock, and keeps you on the Relocate Item page so you can start a new relocation. The items in hand are not recorded on any location until you put them away again, for example with Place Item. |
| Put back with guidance | Closes the relocation and starts Place Item for the item, its lot number, and the amount in hand in the From storage. The LED guidance shows where to put the items. |
| Undo pending relocation | Books the items back onto the location they were taken from, without guidance. Return them to that location yourself. |
| Cancel | Returns to the Main Menu and leaves the relocation as it is. The dialog opens again the next time you open Relocate Item. |
Result
The amount leaves the source location when the items are taken and is recorded on the target location when they are put down. You can check both locations in Inventory Management.
A relocation only moves stock inside oneGRID:
- It does not appear in the Work orders list, in the History, in their counters, or in the work order export on the Export Data page.
- It is not reported to a connected system, because the goods stay in the warehouse.
- It can only be started from Relocate Item. Work order templates and work order imports do not accept a relocation.
If something goes wrong
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| None of the source storage locations holds a sufficient amount of the requested item. | A relocation takes its items from one location. Enter an amount that a single location holds, and move the rest in a second relocation. |
| The locations holding enough of the item hold it in several lot numbers. Enter the lot number to relocate. | Enter or scan the Lot number and click Next again. |
| The item is held only on locations that do not track amounts, so all of it cannot be relocated. Enter the amount to relocate. | Switch off All and enter the amount. |
| The item can only be stored at its original location, as the current location mode does not allow it to be placed elsewhere within this storage. Please select a different destination storage. | The From storage and To storage are the same, and the item has no other location it may go to. Select a different To storage. |
| The items cannot be placed back on the location they were picked from. | Put the items on another location in the To storage. |
| The items have to be placed in the storage this relocation names. Scan a location in that storage. | Scan a location in the To storage. |
| The whole picked amount has to be placed at once. Choose a location that can take all of it. | Choose a location with room for the whole amount in hand. |
| Relocate Item is missing from the Main Menu and the three-dots menu | A feature is not visible |
