Storage settings

This page describes the settings of a single storage and what each setting does. Changing them requires the Management permission. Which settings are available depends on the storage type.

warning

Storage settings change how operators confirm their work. Align changes with the team before applying them during a shift.

Where to find it

  1. Open Management > Storages and open the storage.
  2. Open the three-dots menu and click Settings. The Storage settings page opens.

Settings reference

Settings for shelving storages:

SettingDescription
Pick by scanningHow the operator confirms each pick: Location, Container, Item, or UI button — see Scanning confirmation policies
Place by scanningHow the operator confirms each placement: Location or Container
Unload by scanningHow the operator confirms unloading: Location, Container, or UI button. Not available for flat shelving storages
Sensor confirmation policiesAllow confirming picks with the sensor button at the location
Show report before pickingShow the work order report before picking starts
Default amount for inventory managementThe amount preselected when adjusting stock
Always navigate to designated locationAlways guide the operator to the designated location
Storage assigned colorThe LED color used for this storage's rack guidance. It overrides the operators' own colors during the process. Choose None to use the operators' colors — see Picker colors
Storage assigned deviceThe device that drives this storage's LEDs and sensors

Settings for cart storages (PickCart, ISAC):

SettingDescription
Source confirmationHow the pick source is confirmed: Location, Container, Item, or None — see Scanning confirmation policies. This setting does not apply to work orders with a user-defined process type: for those, the cart follows the Pick by scanning setting of the shelving storage the item is taken from. Only None still applies and switches source confirmation off. The predefined PickCart process and ISAC keep using this setting in full.
Destination confirmationHow the cart destination is confirmed: Location, Container, or UI button

Settings for Put Walls:

SettingDescription
Load completed work ordersWhether completed orders are loaded onto the wall
One item per timeSuggest items one at a time
Displayed amount preferenceWhich amount the screen shows during sorting
Place by scanningHow placements on the wall are confirmed: Location, Container, or UI button — see Scanning confirmation policies
Put Wall clearing policyWhether the wall is emptied with Clear Put Wall or unloaded order by order with Unload Put Wall
Unload after last item scannedStart unloading automatically after the last item
Unloading orderUnload by locations or in first-in-first-out order

Settings for external shelving storages: validation of the pairing between ISAC codes and external locations, and an optional regular expression that location IDs must match.

Scanning confirmation policies

The confirmation policies of a storage are grouped under the heading Scanning confirmation policies. Each policy is a group of single-click buttons — the selected option is highlighted, and a legend explains when each option is recommended:

  • Location — recommended when a location stores one container with a single item type.
  • Container — recommended when a location stores multiple containers, each with a single item type.
  • Item — recommended when confirmation should be done by scanning the item itself. Available for Pick by scanning on shelving storages and for Source confirmation on cart storages.
  • UI button — confirms through the user interface, without scanning.

Based on the selected option, oneGRID displays warnings and recommendations when an action would interfere with it; operators can make exceptions and discard recommendations. If the recommendations are not followed, oneGRID requires additional scanning where necessary to track stock amounts correctly.

Picking work orders with a user-defined process type follows the Pick by scanning setting of the storage the item is taken from: the operator scans the location, the container, or the item, or confirms with the on-screen button. The predefined picking process does not support Item — on a storage set to Item, it asks for the location or the container as before.

These options come with restrictions:

  • Container can only be selected when container tracking is enabled in the general settings — otherwise the button is disabled and the reason is shown below it: This setting cannot be used because container tracking global setting is disabled.
  • Container can also only be selected while the system holds at least one container that can be scanned. Otherwise the button is greyed out with the reason This setting cannot be used because there are no containers in the system. Import or add containers to enable it. This applies to every confirmation that offers Container — Pick by scanning, Place by scanning (shelving storages and Put Walls), Unload by scanning, and the cart's Source confirmation and Destination confirmation. Storages that were already set to Container keep their setting.
  • If you delete the last container that can be scanned while a storage still asks for a container scan, the deletion succeeds but ends with a warning: add containers or change the settings of those storages, otherwise such confirmations cannot be completed.
  • UI button shows a warning when selected for picking or unloading: confirming without scanning does not verify the items, which matters when many different items are stored on a single location.

Picker colors

During a process, oneGRID lights up the locations in the operator's color, so several operators can work on the same storage at once and each one recognizes their own locations. When a storage has no Storage assigned color, it hands out up to 10 colors at the same time — one per operator:

Cyan, Green, Blue, Yellow, White, Magenta, Violet, Orange, Emerald Green, and Lime.

An operator gets their Assigned color from the user settings when it is free on that storage; otherwise oneGRID takes the next free color in the order above.

warning

Violet, Orange, Emerald Green, and Lime are shown by smartLED only. smartCAP sensors cannot display them, so a location equipped with a sensor gives no confirmation light in these colors. Use them only where smartLED is installed. When you choose one of them as Storage assigned color, the page shows the warning The selected color cannot be shown by smartCAP sensors. On locations equipped with a sensor there will be no confirmation light, so use this color only where smartLED is installed.

Because the first six colors are handed out first, the four smartLED-only colors come into play when more than six operators work on a storage at once, or when an operator's assigned color is one of them.
